MAKER’S THUMBPRINT

How much human, how much AI — at a glance.

What is a Maker’s Thumbprint?

A small visual badge that tells the truth about how a piece of work was made — how much human, how much AI, and how the two combined. Three axes, scored 1 to 5: Generation (who produced the raw material), Decision Authority (who made the creative choices), and Oversight (who is responsible for the result). Every combination of scores produces a different shape — a thumbprint unique to that piece of work.

The badge is free, requires no permission, and is meant to be displayed openly. Its only requirement is honesty.

Create your thumbprint

For each of the three axes, choose the level that best describes how your work was made. Honesty is the whole point — the badge is only meaningful when it tells the truth.

Did you create your work using an AI model?

Ask the AI to help you create your thumbprint. Copy and paste this prompt into the same ‘chat’ where the work was created. The AI model that helped you build it knows exactly what it created — and will likely give you a more honest score than you’d give yourself.
